The asthma adventure continues

Little man was doing so well that he was off of all of his medications except for singulair.  That went well for all of two weeks and then he started sounding like hell again.  Daycare called me twice to pick him up within the span of a week so we back to the doctors.  He is hoping it is just a summer virus aggravating the issue and that it is not allergy related.  We are giving all four meds two weeks to work, then we will wean him again and see what happens. Time will tell.

You know my kid that was so good with the nebulizer?  Yeah, not so much anymore.  I have to hold him down now with my legs because he refuses to sit for it.  I think he got so used to not having to do it anymore that he just isn't having it.  Bummer dude.

Kid is growing like a weed!

4/28/2012

Asthma- in the past week of daycare I have been called several times because Jackson needed albuterol.  Fine, back to the specialist as he said last time he doesn't want him on the albuterol except for in extreme situations and at night.  What did the say you ask- that the noise is coming from his adenoids.  COME ON.  Daycare has been with him for a year and a half now, they know him and I trust them 100% when it comes to his asthma.  Of fucking course the day we went in it was raining and he wasn't wheezing.  The plan is two weeks of albuterol twice a day and then they will see him back in two months.

Good news is that he is now in the 23 pound range!  He was 24 with his clothes and diaper on but let's not get too crazy.

On the food front he ate bagel bites this week for lunch!   His teacher actually took his picture because he ate so much twice this week.  Yes, two out of five days at this point is a win in my book.

In other food related news he loves to eat cereal out of bowl with milk and his own spoon.  He will eat this every single time we put it in front of him no matter what time of the day it is.   I throw in some fruit to make it at least partially nutritious and call it a day.

I think this week I am going to give spaghetti-os a try.

Failures- last week's lunchables and pasta with butter were failures.  Popcorn chicken was 50/50, he was double fisting the hell out of them at home but wouldn't touch them at daycare.

Beauty front- I had enough points in my birchbox account to get the Stila Primer Pot.  It's an eye shadow primer-worthless in my book although I have oily eyelids so don't take my word on it.

The Quest

I was thinking earlier today of what I wanted to write about and it came upon me-the quest to find things Jackson will eat.  This is tough stuff people!

This week's purchases included popcorn chicken, pasta with butter and parm cheese, and a turkey and cheese lunchable.

Last week failures included pizza and smucker's pb&j sandwiches.

I realized that I am completely unable to track my child's milestones/growth/whatever else without this blog.  I tried remembering to put everything in the baby book and when that wasn't happening I grabbed a journal.  Yeah, no dice on that one either.  Not going to happen.

Pin the tail on the Easter bunny- he did a pretty good job!

18 month update

Height- 30.9 inches
Weight- 21 lb 15 oz

I know his height and weight are the same from his last appointment at the old doctor's office!  Luckily our new doctor is connected to Neumors(which has done quite a few weight/heights on him in the past year) and according to their growth chart he is doing just fine.    LOL, I never did trust that old doctor anyway.  He is growing out of his pants and runs into the table now so he has clearly grown since his last appointment.  I am guessing as soon as they start measuring him while he is standing we will get a more accurate reading.  The weight is a whole other ball of wax and that is correct, we have to go back in three months for a weight check so hopefully we can put a little on him during that time.

Which brings me to the same exact problem I had at the beginning of winter.  This kid likes to have growth spurts right before seasons change and it is is next to impossible to find lightweight pants for him in the next size up.   All they have out now is shorts, which we already have a ton of since that is the size he wore in Disney!  For now I am just doing a ton of wash as it is supposed to go up in the 70s again next week and then  hopefully he will just be in shorts from here on out.

The asthma situation is frustrating.  We saw the specialist two weeks ago who was aghast that we were still doing pulmicort/xopenex every day.  Dude, I don't have asthma and I know no one whose child has it this young.  I am only doing what the doctor, that we got rid of by the way, said to do.  We were instructed to give him the pulmicort twice a day and albuterol as needed.  Sounds good to me, except if he doesn't get the albuterol at night he coughs all night long and then is doing some majorly fast breathing by the time I go to get him in the morning.  I call and he says, well he probably needs it at night and that means his asthma isn't well controlled yet.  OK.  Then I ask when to give the albuterol because he can't tell me yet.  He says well, "at night, when he turns blue or stops playing."  LOVELY, wait until he turns blue you say.  You know, even though I don't have asthma I have needed an inhaler before due to season allergies and pneumonia and I am 100% sure they didn't tell me to wait until I turned blue to use it.

I didn't know what he was talking about when he said the not playing thing but I quickly found out.  Now when we are outside he will get winded and come to me and want to be picked up.  He isn't full out wheezing yet or turning blue but he no longer wants to play so then I just bring him in and we chill out inside.  It sucks.  I then talk to his pedi about it two weeks later and he said the same thing, albuterol is a rescue, he doesn't need it as often anymore.  Blah blah blah.  "His asthma probably isn't well controlled."

How about you fuckers tell me how to control it better.  He is already on a shit load of shit that apparently isn't working as well as it should.  I keep telling you I think the singulair does absolutely nothing for him yet you keep him on it anyway.

Oh, and you know how much albuterol they gave me?  25 vials per month, which last time I checked isn't even enough to give him one vial a night.  OMG OMG OMG

The kid's area was awesome!
Oh yeah, he just stuck his hand in his mouth
He would have stayed here for hours

Fun new thing we are doing- when Jax doesn't want to hold my hand he sits on the ground

Lunch at Cosi, we were not impressed!

We have our first report card!

and seriously how hysterical is that?  It took me a minute to locate the legend to figure out what the hell A-Always S-Sometimes and N-Not exhibiting meant but after that I was good to go.  The only things Jax is never exhibiting at daycare are 2 word phrases, putting on his shoes and singing along with an adult.  Although on the back it says he tries to sing along during story time so I am not too sure and truly don't care about that.  The funny things I didn't realize he was doing include pulling up his pants and throwing away his trash.  I am going to have to get him a little trash can so he can start doing that at home.  He sometimes exhibits empathy which I found amusing for some reason.  Oh, my son apparently also talks a lot more at daycare than he does at home.  They said he says many words clearly!  My parent/teacher conference is next Tuesday so that should be fun times.

Not much else is going on.  I am taking him tomorrow for his post tubes hearing test, we are up first so I don't think it will take too long.  I will probably take him out for breakfast when we are done.  I love taking him out to breakfast, every weekend him and I get up early, go to breakfast and then do our grocery shopping.  By the time we get home he is wiped out and takes a nice little nap so I can get everything put away.

I signed up for Birchbox six months ago and was overall pretty happy with the subscription service until this month.  An FULL sized item was missing out of my box and from a quick internet search I could easily see that I was not the only one missing it so I have to believe they knew they were missing an item and sent out the boxes hoping not too many people would complain.  I shot them an email and received a response three days later saying they are out and that my account would be credit 100 points.  Well that is great, but a)you are not out as you are still selling full sized liners on your site and b)I would have much preferred a note in my box saying "sorry, we counted incorrectly and you are missing an item.  We will make it up to you next month with an extra sample."  Or something other than just ignoring that you ran out.   Eh, so I am not thrilled.   I looked up glam bags which looked really cool for December but the January bag is pretty blah in my opinion and I generally love my birchbox.  For now I am going to stick with what I have and see what comes down the line in the next few months.

I almost forgot!  I took Jax to my mom's last weekend and Chris finished the basement, with my help of course.  The room is done, the paneling has been moved outside, and the floor is down.  A few more pieces of molding need to go up but truthfully if it never gets done it won't be the end of the world, we are most likely going to loose money on the house anyway!  I was also given permission by Chris to PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE if he even considers buying a fixer upper again.  Thank you baby jesus.

15 months and Doctor issues

First here are the stats

Height -30.5 inches- 26th percentile
Weight- 22 lbs- 14th percentile

My little man is still a little man:)  Everything is trucking along right as it should but it is always nice to hear it from the doctor.

The first, minor issue is that there are constant billing issues.  With our insurance the only thing we have to pay at our pcp is a small co-pay, but every single time we go in they are asking for 200-300 dollars.  Why you ask, because they suck at using the correct codes.  I then have to waste my time getting on the phone with blue cross to find out what codes they should be using.  I thought I had his one year old visit fixed(they billed it as a 0-12  month appointment but he was over 1 at the time) and when Chris took Jax they told him they still wanted an additional $215.00.  Luckily he told them I would take care of it and come to find out the insurance sent them their check on Dec. 13th.  I call them, leave a message, and guess what, absolutely no response back.

So for the second lovely issue.  I look at the receipt when I get home and I see they gave him a third flu shot.  I call first thing and ask them what happened and if there was a medical reason for it.   I know you will find this shocking but they state they can't find his chart but will locate it and look into what happened.  NICE.  I say that is fine, look forward to hearing from you and can you fax me his shot record so I can look at it for myself.  The record was forwarded several hours later but no phone call, still three days later and no phone call.  I know the options were a)we failed to record the booster correctly or b)the doctor didn't look at the chart and just assumed he needed it.  Right, so why not call, give an excuse and say you are sorry?

Now we have to find another doctor.  This will be his third in Delaware.  Remember the first office- minor language barrier and they would not allow sick kids in the waiting room and we had to wait in the car for over two hours when the kid had RSV?  Then they had us wait an additional hour in the room until I asked what the hell was going on and we were the very last ones to be seen.  I could have had him in and out of the emergency room given his age quicker than that.  No fucking luck.   I have some recommendations and I am going to start calling once his current office refills his asthma meds next month.  I will also have to get our records, we all go there, so I hope that won't be a pain in the ass.

time for some pics-

It was 67 out on Saturday so we went to the local school's kiddie park

On Sunday we had our Christmas pictures redone.  While we were out on Saturday we saw that a photographer opened up a studio on our Main Street so I went in and talked to him.  They were taking down their holiday sets and BUILDING new ones!  Holy cow, how did we miss that he opened a few months ago?  He is reasonably priced and the sets were as cute as hell.  We are going to head over there sometime in the next few months.

Disney

First for my complaints while I still remember a few

1. No changing area in the family bathrooms.  Really?  What the fuck is that all about.  I have never been in a family bathroom where there there was no where to change a diaper.  BIZAREE and annoying.  Chris and I walked into the first one thinking one could pee, one could change Jax and then we would switch.  No dice.

2. I am sure this is due to safety concerns but most rides no longer do the baby switch.  As a matter of fact not a single ride we went on did the baby swap.  When you are there with 15 other people that are willing to help out this is no big deal, plus don't forget we went when the park was deader than it has been in 4 years.  What you have to do now is go up to an attendant and tell them you need to baby swap and they give you a fast pass that is good for the whole day and you can take two additional people with you.

This worked out for us because there was no line, so we would go on while someone watched Jax and then three of us would go on again.  If it was just Chris and I, and we were there when it was busy I don't know if we would have bothered with anything besides rides we could fast pass at all.   If you sum it all up one parent could be in line for 1.5 hours while the other is walking around Disney for every single frigging ride and then you would switch while the other goes in the fast pass lane which could still take a half an hour.   Now you could just not wait in line and just use the fast pass if you wanted to, or each parent could go up separately to get their own baby swap fast pass for each ride and screw the system but that's a bit much.  You would barely be spending any time together as a family, no thanks!  At this age, we would not go to Disney with just the three of us for this reason alone.

Other than that as I previously stated it all rocked.  It was very hectic with 16 of us, I am not going to lie but all in all it was awesome.

The first night we all stayed in the All Star Movie Resort-

The start of Jax's new fascination with all things Toy Story

This is how we started out with the characters

The first night we went to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party which was a first for us.  I highly recommend it!
Jax and his cousin on the way back to the Animal Kingdom Lodge

The next day we were off to Chef Mickey's Breakfast and Epcot for the day.  This was an entertaining morning, after breakfast we of course did our mad dash to the monorail.  Well, we didn't quite make it as fast as the rest of the family so we ended up getting left behind.  My sister and her boyfriend stayed back with us and we ended up having an awesome day.  For the first time ever we did the worlds and since Jax was passed out we did a drinking tour.  So much fun!

I was pretty much done by the time we hit Italy.

Here we are after the Finding Nemo ride

The rest of the time we park hopped our asses off!  We had some really good meals and some really crappy ones but I would definitely do the meal plan again.  The Animal Kingdom Lodge was gorgeous but so far from everything that other than the days we were at the Animal Kingdom it felt like we were on the buses forever, in reality it was about an hour to anything but that is still a long time.  A lot of the time we ended up taking taxes to the park and then the buses on the way home since we had a breakfast reservation each day.

OMG, it's Jake and the Neverland Pirates!!!

I have one happy child but the light show made him delirious

The Brown Derby- probably the best meal I have ever had and Jax discovered ranch dressing

Breakfast at the castle- another absolutely delicious meal

You're kinda pretty, Ariel

Dancing again at the holiday lights show

He loved the Winnie the Pooh ride!  He actually screamed when we got off the second time.

On Winnie again

The pictures where Jax did not have something in his mouth were few and far between.

I crack myself up

Crap, I have things to say!  I was just kidding apparently about taking down the blog because I wasn't blogging often.  Who cares, right?  I was thinking about getting a real journal but I just can't see myself doing that so here we are again.

My NYE goals

Floss- I suck at remembering to do this every day
Not say screw my diet and gain 10 pounds between next Oct and Dec
More fruits/veggies, less white carbs
Find a new job- I have an interview in two weeks that I think sounds pretty promising so fingers crossed on that one
That's about all I have there in addition to continuing what I am already doing

Disney

Yes, we went to Disney at the end of November and it was freaking awesome.  There were 16 of us and we went for 8 days.  There were times everyone left us because I wasn't fast enough with the stroller but those days were actually the best and most relaxed.  There were a few things that annoyed me about Disney now that I have Jax but I will get to that another day.  Bottom line- 8 days is a little overwhelming but once he can go on more rides I can see us needing almost that much time.  Now that we have gone three times during that week I will never go any other time, the parks are dead and we go to do so many things that we have never done before which was cool.

Christmas

Awesome.   Pictures to come later

Jax

He had three ear infections between 11/26 and last week.  He is getting tubes tomorrow but other than that awesome.  Between Christmas and New Years he started to say mom, Elmo, ball, apple, Ry-Guy, and bubble.  Funny stuff, that kid.

Me

Well if you haven't guessed already by my goals I gained a whopping 7ish pounds since Thanksgiving.  I impress even myself with this one.  I finally saw a allergist about my constant sinus infections, had a CT scan and was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis/infected cyst pockets.  Two more round of antibiotics and one round of steroids later and I am finally starting to feel better.   That is about it in a nutshell.  Things are good and besides the whole trying to sell our house thing this year I am really looking forward to 2012.
